Hi all,
I hope everyone had a great Memorial Weekend, I sure did. I was barely home at all, except to sleep! Here’s a not-so-quick recap:
Saturday: woke up and headed out to West LA to meet up with my good friend Paul. We headed over to Beverly Center (2 guys shopping? yeah, so? :P) because he had this gift card he’s been wanting to use so I helped him pick out some stuff. The main reason was that we owed our other friend a b-day gift from 3 months ago and made it a point today to go there and get it. The funny thing is, the whole reason I was going out to LA was to meet up w/ ANOTHER friend since it was his birthday, but we TOTALLY FORGOT to buy his gift while at the mall! Lol. I guess Curtis will be getting his gift 3 months from now (probably on someone else’s birthday too!)
Anyhow, after the mall Paul, Sandy, and I met up at Ernest’s place for some midday pizza, poker, and ROCK BAND! These guys looove rockband. They love it so much they’ve created their own band name and have weekly meet-ups to “practice.” Their RockBand kung-fu was definitely strong, though. As the day wore on we headed out to grab dinner, and spent the rest of the evening @ Karaoke Bleu Bar, where Sandy showed off her skills singing “Unforgetable” and “Tearin’ Up My Heart”. Her taste in music is…expansive. :)
Sunday: After getting home at 2am, we started the day by meeting up in Westminster for a little get-together by Chuck’s family (Branden’s dad) for the new addition to the family. It was nice meeting Chuck’s family, since every time I see him it’s always w/ Ann and my family….kind of a nice change of pace. We had some really good salad of some kind with this shredded meat that was kind of like a sweet jerky on top. There were tons of kids there too…I couldn’t keep track of any of their names!
Later that evening, we went over to Brian & Helen’s place for some of Helen’s delicious Ban Xeo (I hope I spelled that right.) It’s basically like a Vietnamese pancake/omelet dish that has pork, shrimp, bean sprouts, lettuce, and basil in it. It is finished off with a fish sauce based dressing poured over it that is freakin awesome. I ate 2 Ban Xeo’s and they are huge! Needless to say, we were completely fat & happy from dinner, but managed to work up an appettite for dessert by playing some Wii Bowling. Sandy & I brought over some pastries from this French bakery in Westminster on Brookhurst (I forgot the name, but the next time Im down there I’ll grab a card…it’s the one with the blue awning in front) which was a perfect end to our meal.
Afterwards, Charlene & Chris (Charlene of Red Velvet Occasions) had to head back home to walk their dog Maddie (an adorable Golden Retriever) and since they live about a mile away from Brian & Helen, we all decided to go. I’m glad we did because I was suffering from some serious food coma from over-stuffing myself on Helen’s delicious cooking. Walking through their neighborhood kind of made me jealous that Sandy & I live so far away, since it seemed like such a great place to live. But we ended up home around 2am again…
Monday: Woke up and got out of the house HELLLA early (relatively speaking) to head over to Sandy’s parent’s house. We met up w/ her mom and sister Naomi to head out and run errands in San Gabriel, and then on back to West LA where we grabbed dinner @ Cheesecake Factory in Brentwood for Naomi’s early birthday celebration (it’s actually today — Happy 20th, Naomi!)
We didn’t get back home to Corona until 11pm…where then wasn’t much left to do but watch tv as we passed out…ending our busy-yet-super-fun Memorial Day weekend.
Hope your’s was just as eventful!
