Zoey Updates

August 31, 2009

It’s been a while since my last Zoey post so I thought I’d throw up a few photos to show you how she’s been. She’s grown by leaps and bounds since the last post. Zoey is about 7 months old now and doesn’t really look like a puppy anymore. Her fur length is the only thing that gives away her age. That and her personality & mannerisms. Zoey is a happy, playful, sleeps-a-lot, everything-belongs-in-my-mouth, what’s-so-bad-about-mud-in-the-house forty pound puppy. She wakes up way too early, likes to lick, chase balls, gnats, or anything else that flies across her field of view. Zoey also gets very jealous. She doesn’t like it when Sandy and I hug and will try to get in on the action by barking, wiggling herself in between our legs, and jumping up on our backs to express her disapproval at not being the center of attention.

Also, Zoey was recently spayed and spent 2 weeks indoors confined to limited movement. To a dog like her, this was equivalent to solitary confinement. By the second week she was knocking things over on her random bursts of energy - sprinting around the table or across the room, and slamming herself into the kitchen island as she slid across the tiled floor. At first we didn’t “conehead” her with an e-collar, but had to give in because that was the only way of keeping her inactive. I felt bad though, she looked misearable and probably thought she was being punished every time we put it on.

I often use Zoey as my model for testing light setups or just when I feel like trying some new photographic trick I’ve learned. However judging by the pictures I get, she probably thinks it’s an evil game of cruelty since I like to use treats to keep her attention and oftentimes will make her hold it, hold it, hold it…..I guess lucky for me she’s always a willing contestant.

…all day long. Zoey likes to sleep under my chair, which makes it difficult for me to work because I’m always paranoid that I’m going to roll over her head.

Meet Zoey!

April 27, 2009

Last Sunday, Sandy and I brought home our newest family member: Zoey. She’s a 9-week old Golden Retriever puppy that we found after much searching and answering of ads in the newspaper. We’ve been wanting a dog for a while now but have been hesitant about getting one because of the commitment level required. I’ve had pet dogs growing up but they were never quite a part of the family due to my parent’s strict rule of no dogs in the house. I knew that if we were going to adopt one into our home, I wanted it to be a part of our young family instead of just its sentinel. After meeting Zoey, Sandy and I knew right away that we couldn’t leave without her.

She’s been a delight to have in the house and is amazingly smart. She’s not quite housebroken yet, but she knows where to go, to sit on command, as well as to wait patiently while her food is being prepared. I hope all of you blog stalkers/readers love dogs, because I’m completely sprung over her and will be posting her photos now and then.

The Ralston Family

April 15, 2009

This past Sunday, I met one of the most awesomest (i just made a new word!) families ever: the Ralston’s!! Bill and Robyn are good friends of Chris and Charlene, whose maternity session I photographed a while ago. They have an adorable 15 month old son Will and, slightly older but just as cute labrador retriever, Bella. Together, the 5 of us headed out and got some beautiful photos while having a great time. Srsly, we kicked butt and took names. Simply put, they’re natural models!

Please, kindly enjoy! (slideshow)

Easily my favorite shot so far this YEAR!
