Spontaneous Start to 2009
January 5, 2009
Happy New Years everyone! 2008 was a great year and I still can’t believe we’re in 2009 now. Just today, I’ve had to correct myself at least 5 times from typing “2008″. This past weekend Sandy & I took a short-notice trip to Las Vegas. It was extremely last minute; we were out having dinner on Friday night at Brodard (vietnamese food rocks!) while having a consersation about how we had nothing to do for the weekend. The conversation went something like this:
“So what do you want to do this weekend?”
“I dunno, what do we NEED to do?”
“Um…probably clean and grocery shop, like every other weekend.”
“That sucks. let’s just go to vegas.”
“OKAY!”
So we rushed home, punched in L-A-S- -V-E-G-A-S on hotwire.com and booked a room in less than 5 minutes. Fifteen minutes later, we were on the road.
It was fun, to say the least. We took a few snaps during our post-battle with the buffet. I tend to not take enough photos when I’m going on trips. Mainly because most of these weekend trips are to places Ive been to many times before (I’ve been to vegas at least 20 times) but that will be resolution #1: take more pictures.
:)
Oh btw, for any photographers out there: these were all taken with the Canon 50mm F1.4 using just the room light. I love this lens!

Nelly Chung: Hello Mieng. I am Sandy's friend Nelly. She sent me your website/blog address and I wanted to comment on how nice a photographer you are. I am not a professional but love photography. I just got a 50mm 1.4 and LOVE IT. I haven't really had much success with just room light. They have mostly been with flash. BTW, I love the shots of Sandy. She is very photogenic. Tell her I said hi.
Chris Chan: Excellent snaps, but why not the 35L? ;)
Mieng: hi nelly, nice to meet you & thank you for checking out my work! i see sandy chatting w/ you all the time on facebook :) what camera do you have? lol chris, i need to put the 35L down for a while and use this 50 more often. in all honesty the focal lengths are not that different; i probably should have went with the 24L or 135L instead.
Nelly: I have a Nikon. I am impartial to either Nikon or Cannon. I secretly love Cannon but have already invested too much into Nikon to switch at this point. I do want to look around for a refurbished Cannon someday. What are your thoughts?
Kristen: Very nice! I miss those kid-free days sometimes...it's hard to be spontaneous now! lol I'm loving the 50mm too. I can't get used to being able to take good pictures in low light...every time I try it and it works out nicely, I'm shocked!
Melissa: Sandy makes a great model! :P
