Happy 232 Yrs Old, America!

July 7, 2008

I hope everyone’s 4th was as great as mine. I spent it with my best friend at the happiest place on earth. We had a blast, even though it was kind of hot and our feet were killing us by the end of the day. I decided to not bring my camera, for fear of something happening to it since I have a few photosessions coming up (including an engagement shoot I did the following day.)

Here are some pics we took with Sandy’s trusty SD630. I’ve been dogging this camera ever since I bought it because I felt that it was no better than a camera phone (in fact I swear my old K850i phone had a better camera in it) but I must retract these statements because I was rather pleased with the files I got.

Everyone’s gotta have this shot in their album…a few times at least:

We got front row seating (accidentally) to watch the Camp Pendleton 1st Marine Division Marching Band perform in the parade!

They stopped right in front of us!

Later that night, we took the advice of some Disneyland employees and went to watch the fireworks show on the 6th floor of the parking structure. It was an awesome spectacle, and these shots don’t do it justice at all.

Jason: Looks like you had a great time. I'm definitely hitting you up the next time I am down there. Oh, and ROFL at tinkerbell ass.

Kristen: Those are really good pictures! I always think that the person behind the camera is more important than the camera itself. I had a point and shoot for a number of years, and there's a huge difference between my early pictures and my later pictures, even though it was all the same camera.

miengs: Lol Kristen, I guess I have learned a thing or two since I got the camera. ;) One other thing, before we left I took the time to try and clean the tiny lens on the camera, and I think that helped out a ton since I wiped away a decent layer of smudged fingerprints and whatever else that may have been fogging up my pictures. All you photogs out there: clean your gear!

Kristen: That's good timing...my stupid tripod doesn't hold my camera very well for vertical photos, and so it got dropped on the wet grass this morning. I only have the stock lens(I need to wait for some spending money for other lenses!), but still, I'd like it to be cleaned up. What do you use?

miengs: Aside from the tiny SD630 point-n-shoot, I have a 30D and 4 lenses: EF-S 10-22mm, 50mm F1.4, 24-70 F2.8, and the 70-200 F2.8 IS. Oh...I just realized you meant, "what do you use to clean the lens." LOL! As for that, a while back I bought a sensor cleaning kit from Copperhill Imaging and it came with a lens kit that had some lens paper, cloth, cleaning juice (it's not really juice...so don't drink it!), and a retractable lipstick-like brush. The cloth is really soft and works well. If i were cleaning one of the above mentioned lenses, I would use the lens paper and "juice" and then wipe again with the cloth to remove any leftover moisture. Check them out. The sensor-cleaning thing is pretty cool too. Oh and I also have a Giottos rocket blower (large) which is great for quick dust-blasting when I'm out and about.
