Branden
April 29, 2008
My little nephew was born Monday night @ 6:10pm!
I got a phone call from Ann (my sister) earlier in the day telling me that she was checking into the hospital at 3pm because she just had an ultrasound done, and they discovered that he was breached (was not turned upside down in the womb - I didn’t know this so if it sounds like I am being know-it-all it’s because I just learned something new and so I’m sharing it :P). The doctor said it was best to have a c-section and get him out immediately. Her due date was 4/30 so she was expecting any day, regardless. From what Ann told me she was prepping for surgery at 5:45pm, and at 6:10 Branden was born! Fast huh?
Mom, Sandy, Chuck (Ann’s FiancĂ©), and I were all waiting for Ann and Branden in their room. As we all sat there talking, Chuck was explaining about how painful it was for Ann (even though she was given a epidural) and that she could still feel her belly being sliced open (sorry for that visual!) I could see the worry in Mom’s face as she said “so, she was in pain?” to make sure she understood what Chuck just said.
Just then, Ann arrived and Mom immediately darted over to her side and to give her a big hug and kiss. From my seat in the room, I saw fat tears rolling down both their cheeks and it was really touching to see them so emotionally moved since these were two of the most important women in my life. (That, and I’m just a big softy.)
But I’m glad to say that Ann was (is) doing well. She was just drowsy and dazed from the ordeal, but happy that everything went well. Soon after, Branden was wheeled in to the room to join us, and we all took turns hovering over him, holding him, and trying to figure out whose traits he got more of. He’s really cute (and tiny!) and is totally going to be spoiled, being as how he’s the first baby in our humble little family. Growing up, I never got a chance to interact with children that often so I’m really looking forward to being his uncle! Plus, he’s going to make a great model for me :P
