I ain’t no Ansel Adams

February 13, 2009

I really like landscape photography, but suck at it because I don’t have the patience to wait around all day in one spot for that perfect moment. I read once that Ansel Adams took his famous “Moon Over Half Dome” shot while on the way to cocktail hour. He just pulled over to the side of the road, snap snap, and got back in his car on his merry way. I don’t know how much of this is true but ever since, I have been committed to bringing my camera with me everywhere, and lately my tripod has found permanent residence in the trunk of my car as well. Heck, it’s even fully extended out and sticking into my backseat just so I can be THAT much more ready.

So anyway, the other day I was driving to the grocery store and dry cleaners which is about a 5 minute trek down the block. However, it took me half an hour to get there because I was driving all around the back roads, trying to find the perfect angle to shoot these mountains. They looked especially captivating this day, because the big rainstorm had finally passed from the area. I ended up taking a shot by the cow farms, which smelled quite un-lovely.

The things we photographers do for pictures…btw this was a 30 sec exposure @ F11.

Happy Chinese New Year

Help Me Choose New Colors!

January 30, 2009

If you happen to have stopped by in the last few days, you may have noticed a difference in the way this blog looks. Or, If you came by, then came back 5 minutes later, the site might have either looked crazy or completely different, or both.  Haha.  No, I’m not playing tricks on you, I am in the midst of redesigning the site and have been tinkering around backstage these past couple of days. I apologize for the inconsistencies, however I think that once it’s finished it will look great.  I hope to finish soon because with that out of the way I can go back to shooting photos.

I do need some help, though. What colors should I incorporate? I have mostly been playing around with ones that look classic and timeless, basic colors which reflect my personal taste and style. But I wanted to see what you guys thought.

Please give me your suggestions!

Spontaneous Start to 2009

January 5, 2009

Happy New Years everyone! 2008 was a great year and I still can’t believe we’re in 2009 now. Just today, I’ve had to correct myself at least 5 times from typing “2008″. This past weekend Sandy & I took a short-notice trip to Las Vegas. It was extremely last minute; we were out having dinner on Friday night at Brodard (vietnamese food rocks!) while having a consersation about how we had nothing to do for the weekend.  The conversation went something like this:

“So what do you want to do this weekend?”
“I dunno, what do we NEED to do?”
“Um…probably clean and grocery shop, like every other weekend.”
“That sucks. let’s just go to vegas.”
“OKAY!”

So we rushed home, punched in L-A-S- -V-E-G-A-S on hotwire.com and booked a room in less than 5 minutes.  Fifteen minutes later, we were on the road.

It was fun, to say the least.  We took a few snaps during our post-battle with the buffet. I tend to not take enough photos when I’m going on trips. Mainly because most of these weekend trips are to places Ive been to many times before (I’ve been to vegas at least 20 times) but that will be resolution #1: take more pictures.

:)

Oh btw, for any photographers out there: these were all taken with the Canon 50mm F1.4 using just the room light. I love this lens!

Merry Christmas!

December 26, 2008

Our Christmas was low key, we slept til noon and then got up, hung out, and watched tv until it was time to head out to dinner. Sandy and I had agreed to not do gifts this year, but I still ended up getting Guitar Hero 3 (soo fun) and she got a pair of boots. We picked our own gifts out. Everybody wins that way - no frustration trying to figure out what to get and no disappointment when it’s time to unwrap. :)

Here’s the pic we used for our Christmas cards this year. I hope everyone had a great holiday with all your loved ones. This Christmas will always be special to us. If you look closely at the pic, you’ll see why.

Answer: (We’re engaged!)
